In our ongoing ‘Meet the Team’ series, we introduce Jordan, our marketing coordinator, whose creative skills and attention to detail make her a standout member of our team.
How long have you been at Excelerate, and can you tell us about your job role?
I have been with Excelerate for 10 years. As a Marketing Coordinator, my role involves executing marketing campaigns, coordinating events, managing our website, social media presence and more.
What does a typical day at Excelerate look like for you?
A typical day at Excelerate involves a mix of tasks. I usually start by reviewing my to-do list and blocking out time to focus on the important projects, followed by collaborating with the wider team to plan and execute ongoing campaigns. I have a diverse skill set spanning graphic/web design, digital marketing and video production which keeps my role varied and exciting.
What is your favourite project that you have worked on?
There have been so many, but one that stands out to me is the 2023 Emergency Services Show. In the lead-up to the event, I put a lot of work in to improving our brand’s impact and engagement. This meant revamping our brochures, churning out online content with blogs/case studies, and simplifying our messaging to resonate more effectively with our audience. I also took charge of creating a strong AV presence. Feedback from the team and visitors was overwhelmingly positive and I’m excited to start working on our plans for this years’ show.
What do you enjoy most about working at Excelerate?
The people. While I work mostly independently, collaboration and getting input from other departments and our customers is essential. Their insights are invaluable and add significant value to our campaigns. I’m grateful that I can ask any of our engineers or IT teams questions about our technology; they are amazing at simplifying complex solutions into easily understandable concepts for me. It’s also fantastic to hear our customers talk about how they use our technology in real-world scenarios. A recent example would be the video overview of the Incident Command Unit we provided Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service.
How has the industry changed since you first started your career?
For many years, there have been significant shifts toward digital marketing with an increased focus on data-driven strategies. It’s rewarding to see the impact content has on increasing website visitors and enquiries and using those insights to further optimise campaigns.
What advice would you give to anyone who aspires to work in a similar job role as you?
Marketing is a continuous learning curve, so my advice would be to take time to develop your skills in new areas. There are a diverse range of courses available through HubSpot Academy, LinkedIn and Google which have genuinely helped me along my journey. Some UK universities also offer free distance learning accredited courses. YouTube is also a fantastic resource when you need quick answers. Earlier this week I learned how to create isometric illustrations, something I had never done before by doing a quick search.
If you weren’t a Marketing Coordinator, what would you be?
If I wasn’t in marketing, I’d likely still be in a creative job, like a digital content designer or something similar. I enjoy working across different mediums to connect with people and convey important messages, whether it’s through visuals, copy, or interactive experiences.
