Dyfed-Powys Police community engagement supported by satellite enabled mobile police stations equipped by Excelerate Technology
Following a formal tendering process, Cardiff based Excelerate Technology has been selected as the provider of satellite communications solutions and IT integration on board four new mobile police stations now in development for Dyfed-Powys Police.
Based on findings from a detailed programme of consultation and research, Dyfed-Powys Police made the decision to invest in four new state-of-the-art mobile police stations for deployment across their area in summer 2015. This strategic investment will support the Force in their operations of safeguarding people living, working and visiting the area. Additionally the investment will enhance the public’s accessibility to the Dyfed-Powys Police service within the communities that they serve.
Dyfed-Powys is geographically the largest police force in England and Wales comprising the four former County Constabularies of Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Powys. The area’s population of over 488,000 is significantly boosted each year with the influx of tourists. With a huge landmass, 350 miles of coastline, remote rural communities and dispersed urban centres – the area presents significant challenges for Dyfed-Powys Police in terms of public accessibility.
The mobile police stations are being designed and equipped to replicate actual police stations. They are bespoke, purpose built vehicles capable of providing a professional, practical and long lasting service that supports the Neighbourhood Policing Teams in their work to further engage with their communities.
Operating in a predominantly rural policing area, the requirement for satellite communications had been identified to support effective deployment across the entire Force area, including full access to police systems and telephony.
The satellite communications solutions provided by Excelerate Technology will ensure that the stations have mobile data and voice connectivity at all times, even in the harder to reach communities, securing the best value for money and optimal usability for this investment. This is further supported by Excelerate’s flexible airtime packages, which will enable the sharing of airtime between the four mobile stations. Airtime sharing will give the Force optimum flexibility and best value, as some stations will have greater needs for data and bandwidth than others.
“We are delighted to be nominated as satellite communications partner on the next generation of mobile police stations for Dyfed-Powys Police. With the integration of our market leading mobile satellite communications, we are confident that the new stations will support further community engagement across the entire Force area.”
