The Satellite Applications Catapult is excited to announce that Excelerate Technology has joined the cohort of innovative companies at the rapidly expanding Westcott Space Cluster.
Excelerate specialises in satellite and cellular technology and their applications. They are experts in ensuring resilient and robust connectivity for emergency services and healthcare organisations, particularly in rural and remote areas where connections can often be poor.
Excelerate is already capitalising on partnerships developed through the dynamic ecosystem of space companies at Westcott:
– Excelerate and satellite communications provider OneWeb, recently announced a Distribution Partner Agreement (DPA) to provide satellite connectivity services via its constellation of 650 low earth orbit (LEO) satellites. These services will be available to first responders, other government agencies and public sector organisations across the UK and globally.
– The Satellite Applications Catapult and Excelerate recently achieved a world-first with 5G Satellite Backhaul on the multi-award winning, £9 million DCMS backed 5G RuralDorset project – a feat made possible by facilities at Westcott.
– Excelerate has also been working with the Healthy Living Lab at Westcott, enabling connectivity and innovation in the healthcare sector. Situated in the Westcott Innovation Centre, the Healthy Living Lab supports a collaborative approach to innovation; bringing technology developers together with healthcare professionals to co-design, co-create and scale health-tech solutions.
John Vesey, Health and Wellbeing Business Manager at the Satellite Applications Catapult, said: “We are delighted that Excelerate will be joining the growing number of companies with a base at the Westcott Innovation Centre. By expanding their operations to the site, they will have even better access to the growing number of space-sector facilities and expertise provided. It will also enable future collaboration in areas that make a real difference to people’s lives.”
David Savage, CEO and founder at Excelerate technology, said: “For the past 20 years, we have been developing and delivering ubiquitous and hybrid connectivity for a whole host of sectors, from the emergency services and first responder sector through to government, logistics, healthcare and latterly maritime.
“We have always strived to innovate so that early adopters can realise the benefits our products and solutions can bring them and help pave the way for the implementation of future integrated technology solutions, based on operational outcomes. This partnership with Satellite Applications Catapult, and the recent DPA with OneWeb, who are also instrumental to future innovation at the site, helps us to continue to do just that.”
Simon Hill, Chief Technical Officer for Excelerate Technology, said: “The facilities that Satellite Applications Catapult has at Westcott act as a perfect platform for us to help drive innovation alongside other, like-minded partners who all have the same goal – to deliver business and public benefits through the advancement of enhanced technology and connectivity.”
